The sweet root of Glycyrrhiza glabra. Contains glycyrrhizin, which inhibits the breakdown of cortisol (11-beta-HSD2) supporting adrenal recovery, and flavonoid glabridin. In deglycyrrhizinated (DGL) form, it stimulates mucosal secretion and cell proliferation, coating and healing stomach ulcers and esophagus tissues.

WHOLE (non-DGL) licorice can cause sodium retention, potassium loss, and elevated blood pressure if taken in high doses (>500 mg glycyrrhizin/day) for over 4 weeks. For acid reflux and long-term daily use, ALWAYS use Deglycyrrhizinated Licorice (DGL).
