Common Mallow (Malva sylvestris) leaves and flowers are a premier demulcent medicine rich in soothing mucilage polysaccharides, anthocyanins, and tannins. Like marshmallow, mallow mucilage swells in water to form a highly viscous, protective gel that directly coats, lubricates, and shields irritated or inflamed mucous membranes. It is highly effective for quietening dry, tickly coughs, easing throat pain, and shielding a raw gastric lining.
Educational information only — never stop or change a prescribed medication without talking to your prescriber first.
Generally exceptionally safe. Because the thick mucilage can slow the absorption of other substances, take other oral medications at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after consuming mallow preparations.
