Cold-pressed virgin coconut oil (Cocos nucifera), composed of ~50% lauric acid (C12:0). When swished in the mouth (oil pulling) or applied topically, lauric acid and monolaurin dissolve lipid membranes of pathogenic oral bacteria (Streptococcus mutans) and restore the lipid barrier of the stratum corneum in dry eczema-prone skin.
Educational information only — never stop or change a prescribed medication without talking to your prescriber first.
Do not swallow oil after pulling (contains extracted oral toxins and bacteria). High in saturated fat; use primarily topically or for oral hygiene rather than excessive dietary gorging.
Evidence level: Strong
