Bearberry (Arctostaphylos uva-ursi) leaves containing high concentrations of arbutin and tannins. Arbutin is absorbed in the gut and excreted in the urine, where it is cleaved into free hydroquinone, exerting direct bactericidal action against E. coli and Staphylococcus in alkaline urine.

Arbutin works most effectively in alkaline urine (avoid acidic juices/vitamin C during use). Contraindicated during pregnancy.
